Perfect for the price,
I do a lot of photography and videography in low light situations (like almost pitch black sometimes). This light has about a 15 foot throw, and with high ISO and open iris, I’m able to get shots that were previously impossible to get. The only negatives are: the shoe connection is pretty cheap plastic, so it doesn’t feel secure on top of the camera while I’m moving around. There is no instruction manual or user guide, but it’s pretty simple to figure out (a user manual with actual camcorder battery model numbers would be great!). If you’re looking for an inexpensive on camera light for either still or video, this will get the job done.

A Nice LED Light Source,
I chose this particular light not knowing if it would be the “right” light for the job. I’m happy to report that this light is bright and provides a really nice light for video work. Recently, I presented a live webcast and used this light with the magenta filter as a hair light. It was actually too bright for that on the highest setting. When I adjusted it down to less than half power, it was the perfect hair light. The next day, we had a power outage that lasted about 12 hours. I put in a big Sony battery, hung this light from a stand and used it to light our entire living room, at 1/4 power. It ran for 6 hours and used only 25% of the battery power! Needless to say, I’m impressed. One thing that I would really love to see is an option to plug this light into an A/C power source. With 4 or 5 of these, you would be able to light an entire set. Your only limit would be that you’d run on battery power only. Highly recommended.
